Ford Turns Plastic Into Seat Covers

In this latest environmentally friendly venture with REPREVE, Ford may become the "greenest" auto maker out there. The team will recycle, or "upcycling," materials to be used in upcoming models.
Seat covers on board Ford Focus Electric are going to be made from used plastic water bottles. That is two million plastic bottles that will be transformed into seat fabric. The Smart Water you drink today might be a passenger seat tomorrow."REPREVE's fabric is a polyester fiber made from a blend of recycled PET plastic, along with other recycled post-consumer material," as stated in Ford's press release. "The car will be the first with an interior made with 100 percent clean technology, far exceeding the company's goal of 25 percent clean technology across their whole vehicle line-up."1
Each Focus will use 22 recycled bottles, which keeps PET material out of landfills.
